NY Times: Leadership on View near West Point

Dialog invites the viewer to participate in this dialog.  Three figures sit together, actively learning in the Platonic method as they sit under a tree, discussing their topic. The figures, all female, were created as a group specifically in conversation. Brody’s figures are all autobiographical and reflect her musings on being a woman. She creates her figures in series and then groups them into conversations and/or dialogs where the spaces between the figures and relationships of one figure to another enhance the statement. These figures can be reconfigured into other conversations.

Brody explores her world through the female figure in many variations. The figures are distorted and elongated often with extraneous elements eliminated or just suggested. Gesture and relationships are the focus.

Musings: Work in Clay

Opening Reception June 6, 11-5

Book pages, torsos, incised words on figures in stoneware with oxides all musings on the state of being a woman of a certain age. The figures explore some of the changes in the past 10 years as I become a grandmother again and as my body and body image change. Internal references to nature have changed as well from tree forest images the figures now reflect classical fertility goddesses incorporating bird features and now frog imagery.
